New Zebra Cards from Novoflex

NOVOFLEX ZEBRA WHITE BALANCE/GREY CARDS

Often small things make big differences in the working life of a photographer. Especially the ZEBRA
cards from Novoflex, the accessory specialist.

Checking always has to beat guessing; and now there are perfect check cards for exposure metering
and white balance. Of special importance is the accuracy of the color of the ZEBRA cards which have
been measured to be within 0.03 density between R, G and B and have no UV peaks as in many
other cards made for the same use!

The flexible cards, made from a special polymer, have an antireflection coating on both the white side
and the grey side. The grey side serves as a reference area for exposure metering while the white
side enables correct white balance that is so important in digital photography. Handling couldn’t be
easier. The camera takes a light reading of the check card to perform an exposure measurement or
white balance and, presto, the camera is set optimally for the prevailing light conditions to guarantee
perfect exposure and color!

Nikon V1 performance at ISO 2200

When they announced the new V1 and J1 cameras, people seemed to be generally pleased with the overall specifications from the first mirrorless SLR offerings from Nikon….there was however, the oft-repeated criticism that the sensor was too small. More than a few message board “experts” surmised ( well before ever actually shooting with the camera system, of course) that the smaller sensor would produce too much noise and not enough detail to be a “serious” enough camera for someone who is used to shooting with a full sized DSLR.  We decided to put this question to the test and sent one of our staff writers, David, to the National Zoo to shoot some critters at a moderately high ISO ( 2200 for example).
